Re: How large of a part can safely be parted off.

Hi A couple of questions first so I understand your goal. You are cutting it in half ie 1.25 sort of as you will only have about 1.125 of usable material left over is that a correct interpretation? Is your final part to be 1.25 or did you allow for cleanup and you need a part thinner? If I actually ...

Re: surface plate conundrum.

Hi Over the last 40 or so years of buying stuff my wife has been very supportive but for different reasons. It did not take her long to ask - and how much extra is the motor or a stand? Otherwise whats this thing really costing. As she became more knowledgeable about sizes of tools - is there a bigg...

Re: Headstock oil

Ed Just for a point of ref. I have a Cholchester 15" Triumph 2000 and Clausing 5904. In both of these I have been using ISO 68 Hydraulic oil (Mobil). I have had the 5904 for over 20 years and have replaced the oil every 2 years - It comes out as clear as when it went in and I use this lathe the...

Andrew

Another nice engine. You cannot go wrong with Mercer. When in my loco building days I purchased lots of stuff from him, all nice quality.

Good Luck in the hobby, it is always great to see someone young getting an early start.

Re: Superscale safety valves.

Hi That is hard question. When I first got it I steamed it often, ie during the summer months May to Sept probably 3 to 4 times a month. I used to just run it in the back yard. It got used for the first ten or so years more than my locomotives. When the granddaughters were old enough, about 7, they ...

Re: Superscale safety valves.

Andrew Nice looking engine. Until last fall I owned a 1/4 scale Minneapolis with a water wagon and fully functional Separator. I owned it for 23 years and it is a great runner. Now just some practical information for you. I had for about 30 years been in live steam with 1 1/2 equipment and used Supe...

Re: Variable Frequency Drive

Mr Ron I have been using VFD’s for about 12 years. I have them on a Clausing 8530 3/4HP, 1 ½ HP Bridgeport, 2HP Clausing Lathe, and a 7 ½ HP Quincy Air Compressor. The Clausing mill was done as you want to do. I ordered both the motor and VFD from the same supplier. I can highly recommend Dealers El...

1" and smaller Little Engines

Hi

I thought I had read someone took over the Little Engines 1" and smaller scales. I did some
search's and came up blank.

Is it my imagination or is someone working on bringing those back?

Thanks

Re: Problems cutting fine threads

Pete I use the Accu-Finish hone also. It puts a real nice finish on both carbide and HSS. I also use the Micro 100 tooling. After making lots of parts on the Sherline I am still not covinced that carbide beats out HSS. I use a lot of the Warner insert tooling with really excellent results. I think i...
