Re: Superscale safety valves.

Ken, I used two of the SVL1's. I only needed 100 psi with the American so I was not worried about the other ones. They were adjustable, but I never tried to change them. They opened and closed just like the Superscale valves. I wish I had a video of them working, but I don't. For any small to medium...

It looks GREAT Donald! I hope I can make my Pacific half as nice as your GS-1 when it is done!

Re: Superscale safety valves.

The Superscale safety valves on my Pacific are awesome! They don't leak before they pop open and shut really quick too. I think the differential is only about 5 psi. If you don't care about looks the safety valves that American Model Engineering work really well too. They operate just about as nice ...

Re: Erie K5a Pacific

Thanks for the compliments guys. After a hard 5 days of running I am extremely happy with how the engine did. No break downs, and it well exceeded my expectations. The engine can pull a ton and has an extremely loud stack talk. Now to do a few little other odds and ends on the engine and build the t...

Re: Sightings at TM

Ken, thank you for the nice compliments, it was very nice meeting you too. Thanks for the video too! It was a very good meet, and I could not have been happier with how my engine ran. I never expected it to do nearly as good as it did since it is a brand new engine. To all of the chaski members I me...

Re: Erie K5a Pacific

Well I have not updated the thread in a while. I have been working on the engine pretty much non stop. Yesterday the engine ran for the first time. No real issues were encountered, and the engine did really well for the first run. Here is a picture of my friend Brian Keim running the engine. The ten...

Re: 2 questions: Copper boiler washing and trucks

On my 3/4 mogul I used a small amount of muriatic acid mixed with water. It did a very good job. The only problem was the next couple fire ups I had sediment coming out of the boiler. If you do that you need to wash the boiler out pretty good to make sure you flush all the junk out of the boiler. It...

Re: Does Anyone Recognize This Cylinder Design?

That is not a Martin Evans Caribou cylinder block. The Caribou is a three piece cylinder block.

Re: The Home Machinist's 3/4" Scale Locomotive Roster

Here is a Caribou built by NEOLS charter member Paul Haar in 1969. Its first run was in November 1969. Paul took the engine to multiple tracks in the 1970's and early 1980's including Iowa and the Ontario Sun Parlor Lines. I have a log of all the times the engine was run, and it only has about 160 h...
