Re: Pressure de-rate of pipe fittings, Temperature
Use fittings from a known manufacturer like ASC/Anvil or Ward (not the China-Big Box types). Their documentation has pressure and temperature ratings. For example follow these links. https://www.asc-es.com/resources-and-downloads?q=&dF%5B0%5D=literature&dF%5B1%5D=software&dF%5B2%5D=techn...

Re: liability Insurance
Do some reading on "piercing the corporate veil". An LLC offers a layer of protection but has limitations.

Re: ASME BPVC Section I Power Boilers
Miniature in ASME parlance is not the same as the live steam hobby would use miniature. ASME for example requires miniature boilers to be equipped with a minimum 1/2" NPS sealed safety valve and 1/2" blow offs. Applicable to a small or "miniature" boiler installed in a building b...

Re: ASME BPVC Section I Power Boilers
Pursuing an ASME code for miniature boilers is a bit of a solution searching for a problem. Careful what you wish for.

Jason, that is a nice transformation into a classic light Pacific look. Russ had a short newspaper article about the guy who built with a photo.

Re: Locomotive Steaming Down Tips
At the end of the day I lay a rag over the stack and let the fire go out. I run the water up in the glass but not clear full. While I wait for the boiler to cool I pull the timing plugs out of the valve chambers, put a little cylinder oil in all four ports and roll the engine back and forth. This di...

Re: Club Dues 2023/2024
Two clubs: 1) $25/year. On private land in exchange for giving public rides twice a month. Donations from passengers covers the majority of the clubs expenses. This is a double edge sword. 2) $23/month as an affiliate member. Regular members (within less than 60 miles) $230/year. Club owned land. Cl...

Re: ames triplex 1148
It took me a bit to find it. My dad kept a detailed record of what he spend building his locomotives. He sold the Triplex in 1993 for $500.

Re: ames triplex 1148
If you are doing smaller parts it is a handy machine. My dad had one when he built a CliShay. He still had it when he started a Pacific. He machined the saddle for his cylinders on the Triplex. If Harbor Freight and Wen can get $900 for their "compact bench mill" treating a Triplex like it...

Re: Derailments
NS and the class ones are not unique. Airlines and regulators are working on rules to fly commercial flights with one pilot in the cockpit. Cargo flights and long haul international flights would be first. The international flights would have a second pilot during take off and landing. Cruise would ...

Re: Lubricator
Mine are lubricated through a hole in the center of the axle. A push button oiler seals the hole. A couple pumps with an oil can has served well for 30 years. Regarding your mechanical lubricator idea it would not have to pump continuously. A small hand crank or knob would let you pump in oil as nee...
