Re: Help with New Build Specs...

K36 in 2.5 is 14" od boiler. Its got to be a two footer, and a big one at that. Its either the SR&R: 10, 23, or the Scidia/Mysore 2-8-2 locos. Build the locomotive that is so interesting to you that the project will keep you excited, no matter how long It takes, or how big it is. You may ne...

Re: Winton Westinghouse 9 1/2" Air Compressor

Dave Braun at Mammoth Locomotive Works has those pumps. I'm very interested in how your project goes, as I'm considering one of the larger scale Winton pumps, so I'd like to follow your progress closely. Call Mammoth, see what he can help you with, and I'm interested in his responses.

Re: Found in the forest

So, did we reach a consensus on: is a known portion of that 55 miles of rail still there? What was its weight?

Re: Your own large scale RR

Its neat looking for a wild west miniature town, but the train is not much, and there's only 23 acres. Maybe they have a paved parking lot, some offices, structures. So, where's the other $5 million dollars ? If it gets a lot of income from the gate that's where the money is represented.

Re: Coupler source?

Mammoth in Colorado, has the Winton ( Winton Brown) line. There were 1.5",3, 5, and 8" scale couplers. They were cast iron. There is a photo posted in here, search: 5" coupler. They looked just like the Simplex (MCB) couplers. You can find info on those in the old Loco & Car Cyclo...

Re: Truck bolsters and draft gear sizes....

On the 3' gauge, truck interchange was common, so if they are not exactlythe same bolster height, they must be close. The center plates changed in about 1930 when the flat center plates became standard. If you stick to 2.5" scale and model the prototype designs you should be able to use those a...

Grand Scale catalogs

Has anyone got any catalogues from Grand Scale builders and suppliers? These often include old info which can be very useful to us modern Grand scalers. The following are some of the companies that might have had a catalogue: Winton Engineering. Keystone light Equipment Co. McDermott Locomotive Work...

Re: Signals: Stick relay....

Yikes, that looks really Expensive! There have been a few articles in RMC and MR over the last few decades about the various types of track signaling. Maybe one of those offers a less expensive way to get what you need. Automobiles use relays that only cost about $15 each and they are somewhat weath...

Re: Commercial Air Brake Valve

Nope. Dave Skagen, Shelton, WA. It was listed a few years ago. He spends the AM in his shop working, with no phone, but he does answer his phone in the mid afternoon. Any other time his wife will take your number.

Daves track is known as: Satsop. There are a few videos on YouTube.

Re: Commercial Air Brake Valve

Just incase you don't find what you need commercially, the West Coast 5/12 scale guys do have a pretty good valve that was Erich Thompsen's, they use two in a cab, one for the independent and one for train brake vale. Dave Skagen makes 3 -3/4" H6 and S6 valves, I'd love to find a reason to by a...
