Re: Wabash, frisco and Pacific/ Mueum of Transportation
Its been maybe 15 years since I last stopped in at the MoT and I know they have moved stuff around and also disposed of some stuff over those years. The management has changed in the last few years and word is it was for the better as the bureaucratic controlled misguidance of the museum has suppose...

Re: Fairbanks Morse Diesel components in 1/8th scale?
Steve did most of the running gear but the guy really building it did the body and paint work. Steve has gotten out of the hobby and sold all his machines and tools and I don't recall what happened to the truck patterns, they were just the outer facade, much easier to just fabricate and they could b...

Re: Last Breath Of Fire
We were just discussing the end of GTW steam yesterday. One of our live steam guys here locally along with a friend or two got written permission from the GTW in 1959 to ride along on some of the last of steam on the GTW. He mentioned riding the 6325 and the 6327 which were both 4-8-4's. The GTW 632...

Re: Derailments
Specific Railroad jobs just like airlines and other transportation jobs are DOT covered positions. Yes, they will get drug tested, and yes, they have to pass. Those are Federal regulations. That is one of the job qualifications. If one can’t abide by that, then there are plenty of other jobs availa...

Re: Derailments
ok...am I the only person that saw the blurb about 'loose wheels' on axles found / reported by NS on some 600+ known freight trucks built within the last 8 months from one manufacturer? FRA and AAR have an alert out about it, calling to get all of the subject trucks off the tracks. https://www.frei...

Especially living in an area such as St.Louis I would start calling around to not only suppliers but also pipe fitting, fire suppression and other places that might have a few feet of left over sitting around.

but if you take steel into the scrap yard they tell you they are not getting anything for it so they can't pay much. The closest yard has a string of gondola's and is loading and shipping as much as I have ever seen.

Re: Long shot does anyone recognize this motor?
Is there no information on the motor? It really gets me that firms selling motors they had special made will either request the info tag be left off or they will remove it so you can't source around them. 20 plus years ago I had an in with Leeson motors and was in need of some motors for a repower p...

Re: Is buying a part finished project worthwhile?
There are so many variables in this question I think a suitable answer might be difficult to find. Factors will be the experience of the who or (who's) that were working on a project previously and also the subject. If a project is going to need alot of redo and new parts are readily available, is w...

Re: Requesting assistance for board issues
the best way I have found for a good general computer cleaning is to download ccleaner. I have apps on this computer trying to block as much of the adds as well as blocking most cookies from sites and there is still a bunch of junk that collects in just a week or two so its good to run ccleaner regu...
