Getting Covers off crucibles
Can anyone suggest a way to keep covers from sticking to the crucible when melting bronze..? Seems that I must have gotten flux on the edge of the crucible and the cover stuck so hard, I almost broke the crucible while at 1800 degrees. I changed covers, and the new one stuck also. got it off finally...

Re: What's wrong with this picture
Its called " Imitation tool holder drawback "
An Aloris cutoff holder is flush with the post.
Sorry, but cheaper tools have short comings, in more ways than one.

Re: The ways should be lubricated with way oil ...
My BP (1943) had grease on the ways when i got it.. Since it was stored for 20 years, that really helped...BUT it takes a lot to move the table. I took a small hand grease gun (mini model) and used it upside down, putting way lube in , and using the the pump which now was at the bottom.. works OK, b...

Re: How to tighten the gibs and screws on an old BP?
BP To tighten the table gib Run the table to the right, almost all the way Go to the rear left side (as you look at the mill) of the saddle, just under the rear table way, and you will see the gib adjustment screw. Take a big screwdriver and screw it in till it stops, then back out about 1 to 1 1/2 ...

Re: Headlight Question
Old Way ( before computers !) Take some plexiglass and wipe it with laquer thinner or Acetone. this will fog the plastic. Go to the hobby shop, or art supply store and buy 'lectraset' dry transfer decals of your number. put the decal on, (But do NOT rub/burnish them in ) spray light coat of clear co...

I'm shooting from the hip here, but I believe that LS was around 11,000 at one time and Modeltec hit 6,000 in it's hayday as I recall. HSM should be larger as It is a more "common " hobby. Hard to say where the breakeven point is, but I would think about 4,000. Don't forget, both those ste...

Re:Try this for AIR COMPRESSOR HELP??
Darren. It really sounds like the "Unloader valve". let me explain. When the compressor is running, it pumps high presure air into a tube (or pipe), that is called the "Manifold" the manifold has 2 valves attached to it. 1. A large check valve, that allows air from the 'manifold&...

Re: Blast air preheat
Dan Years ago we built a iron Coke Cupula and had a rough time with cold air. We put a jacket around the barrel and the air went in the tywers from the jacket..that helped some, but the jacket did't cover enough of the cupula to gain enough preheat ..It should have covered all of it. So we took some...

Re: Well I bought a CNC mill, 2nd comment
I forgot to mention power.. I split off my control portion of the 220 and run it on regular single phase220, instead of one leg on a 3 phase supply..that way, you do not have to face voltage fluxuations and only have to size a 3 phase convertor for spindle power... Means all the "Special" ...

Re: Well I bought a CNC mill, what's next?
Randy Welcome to a whole new world of homeshop CNC. I wish I could tell you I have a BP Boss 5, but I don't.. We did have them at our local tech school and they are a very sturdy machine, and should do well by you.. 1. The main problems with this unit are the circut boards..seems some BP's go thru t...

Re: Buy a New Drill Press Column
Hey GW If you can buy one, do it.. We had a machinist in our shop that tried to do eaxactly what you intend to do.. He had some pipe 6 feet long and when he tried to turn the OD, the chatter was terrible. He used a follow rest, and got the job done, but the occasional "rings" (undersize) o...

Re: Ball Screw Question
Hi Len
I bet it is really a 5mm pitch (.196) and they had someone convert it to inches (.203) and that was the closest they came to a inch number .
I have seen it before..
the diameter is most likely 16mm (.630) as well.
