Re: Hot glue gun
Hot melt glue is awesome, but as Clint Eastwood said in "Dirty Harry" - "A man has to know his Limits" So it is with Hot Melt--don't get mad at it for failing. just know it's limits ! I have had the same gun for 40 years. It is a gun made by the hot melt maker Bostik , and is a B...

Re: Tailstock Position Accuracy?
............................................................. Rich - Are you saying that you had the same diameter piece in the chuck and tailstock? I can see that when properly aligned you would then get that OD measurement across both pieces together. I noticed that the clamp would create an upwa...

Re: Tailstock Position Accuracy?
Here is another method that does not use a indicator.. only a Mike ! We used this in a shop that moved the tailstock off center for taper turning ( a lot ) but it was effective, and not jumpy We selected what we had a lot of.. 2" CRS shafting, so there were lots of cutoffs We made another cente...

Re: Tailstock Position Accuracy?
There are several things to check before you reach a decision on accuracy The first is readings clamped and un-clamped to the bed ways Then readings with the barrel clamped and un-clamped Then readings with the barrel extended fully, both clamped and un-clamped ` then install a center and check Soun...

Re: 10" Yuasa Rotory table
I have a 12" NEWS RT, which is made by Yuasa and it looks identical as yours I never checked the plug you also have on yours, as mine is a perfect.750 fit for dowels--Not threaded I assume it is a MT # 3 but never checked, however Grizzly has a "Yuasa Type" RT , which looks like a cop...

Re: Boring for Chuck Jaws?
The angled sides look like they were finished with a belt sander ( cheap chuck) using the cutout plate will not load the jaws properly, especially since it is aluminum as you only get a light load. Do not drill with a hand drill Try a new carbide drill, and do it in a drill press with down force and...

Re: Boring for Chuck Jaws?
If you feel the masonary bit is too iffy, Push the drill up as far into the drilling chuck as possible. This will put the jaws on the flutes, not the shank and give you more stability for starting .Use as high a speed as possible , like 3500 RPM and don't be afraid of spaying some water on the drill...

Re: Oversize For Grinding Finish size
Yes, warping occurs easily on shafts. It mostly comes from chilling the shaft incorrectly. when dunking it in oil ect. ALways, Always induce the shaft vertically into the bath to reduce or eliminate linear warpage. Rich PS You see this when guuys swirl the shaft/rod in circle 8's in the pail . It ma...

Re: Bifocal safety glasses
I use 1.50 for computer work and for seeing my work on the lathe, but I can't read my micrometers or plans/books with them - need 2.50 for that. Can anyone recommend a good rugged pair of bifocal safety glasses? Steve Rather than getting new glasses , look at the McMaster Carr link that was posted ...
