Re: Semaphores explained?

SCBryan, there -is--- something about watching a semaphore cycle through its aspects. Here's some just published video content of a 1-1/2" scale semaphore on You Tube: https://youtu.be/8DeL8vxbLww Equipment will be running at the 7-1/2" gauge track in Owosso, Michigan this Saturday, August...

Re: Semaphores explained?

A semaphore could be viewed as a robotic arm. You might consider picking up a book on robotics to gain further ideas that can be helpful. Gordon McComb’s “Robot Builder’s Bonanza” is one that comes to mind and there are obviously others published. Thinking back, I wish I had explored more options us...

Re: Semaphores explained?

Dick; Building a functioning, realistic semaphore model requires a knowledge base of multiple skill sets and disciplines. It helps first to be obsessed with the idea of making such a device… and maybe being on the fringe of [crazy]. Choose your model signaling objectives as they best fit you, and go...

Re: Train is finished

Mission accomplished! Very nice.

As a long time advocate of material choices, what held your decision in using steel in constructing your train cars?

Googling "Magnetic Signal Company, Los Angeles" will get 'ya started.

Here's a handy drawing for some dimensions.

Re: New IBLS Secretary, North American Region

Totally agree with you David. All of this discussion has taken place before. Everyone is perplexed in how to deal with the information that's presented to us everyday. What's authentic? What's relevant? What's helpful? No (one)... living human being... has ever had the capacity to absorb all relatio...

Re: New IBLS Secretary, North American Region

David’s question related to benefits of membership is a valid one. (What’s in it for him, or anyone?) Learning about the original thinking behind the formation of the International Brotherhood of Live Steamers should be rekindled first. http://ibls.org/mediawiki/index.php?title=About_the_IBLS The wh...

Re: Indicating Rough Cast Iron

This thread is particularly interesting to me because a relatively simple job was made overly complicated by choosing a method or approach that made it difficult right from its beginning. Recalling the wisdom of, “… a job started ‘right’ is half finished” comes to mind. But what’s the right way to b...

Flag Etiquette

As we go into our holiday weekend celebrating the 4th of July, it may be time to review United States Flag Etiquette. There will be lots of equipment running on tracks all over the country and many of them will have a U.S. Flag mounted somewhere on a locomotive. According to U.S. Code, Title 4, Chap...

Peter F. Drucker pretty much established “the business” is… as seen through the eyes of the customer.

Great question! It will be intriguing to read what follows.

Cool! It moves me to highlight our 1955 1-1/2" scale Lima Switcher is powered by a B-17 turret motor.
