contouring builders plates

I bought a a pair of etched brass Baldwin builders plates fro my engine. I thought that they'd be thin enough to bend by hand but I can't even make them flex. How can I go about contouring them to fit my smokebox without creasing or marring them?

Re: Back Up Light

I made some color roundels for 1/4 scale semaphore signals out of lexan. I machined some dies out of aluminum, and then I heat blanks to about 300 degrees in the oven and them press them in the die. Works like a charm,

Re: Anybody know who made this pilot beam?

Jared, Sorry I've taken so long to reply. Sometimes I'm too busy making things to take time out to talk about them. That pilot beam is very similar although more refined looking than the one in question. I went back and reexamined the pilot which, as it turns out, has no markings at all but the truc...

Re: Closed angle cock?

To someone who has been an engineer for the last 27 years it doesn't matter what size, type, shape or angle they are. In railroad vernacular they are ALL angle cocks.

Closed angle cock?

Does anybody make a model of an angle cock in the closed position? It looks kind of odd to have it open on the front of your engine or the rear of the caboose.

Re: Anybody know who made this pilot beam?

I was mistaken in that the build date was actually 1864 but this little engine was in regular service until 1953!

Re: Anybody know who made this pilot beam?

Here are some more pictures of Sierra Railway locos. The #20 was built in 1916 and delivered with a wood pilot beam but had the cast replacement by 1937 (date of photo) and probably earlier.
