I thought my stainless steel HELIX ruler was etched, but after trying to rub off some grime with IPA, all the markings readily rubbed off as well. I did not know that. It's an old USA product with a cork backing.
Their website seems disgusting to me, unless I am off base...?

Hmmm. Without a link, I'm not sure I'd be able to comment on the web site.

Is HELIX a brand name? Or is some weird tool to measure helices?

A google search for Helix ruler will produce many images. I'm sure mine said it was made in USA, but the current examples say made in China. Since they are ®, I looked up the word mark in the USPTO and could not identify the company behind the brand. I'll have to revisit it later. Probably the site I was looking at was a distributor, then.
