Here come four postings with one photo each. Each used a different camera orientation.
Taken today with an iPhone SE.

Last one is the first photo above (shutter left) but inverted before posting.
It does not post with the "corrected" orientation.

I suspect metadata attached with each photo is preventing correction of the photo orientation when posted on Chaski.
Anyone have ideas on how to prevent this from occurring? I cannot locate a solution, and Mike Dorin is investigating that.

We really do NOT want to keep seeing my photos all screwed up!

Not the easiest solution for bulk changes, but bring the photo up on your computer, rotate it to the correct orientation and take a screen shot.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will remember that.
The real fun is that the photos always show correct orientation on my computer BEFORE they are posted.
So I cannot tell which ones will post on Chaski incorrectly oriented.
Software challenge that Marty is looking into.

I'm not sure I completely understand what's going on, but I can tell you what's worked for me so far:

1. Grab a copy of the messed up photo. In Firefox, right click on the image, then click "Copy Image" on the menu that appears to put the image on the Windows clipboard. Other browsers probably have something similar.
2. Paste the image into your favorite paint program. I use an ancient version of Paint Shop Pro.
3. Use the paint program to correct the orientation and save the result as a .PNG file.
4. Upload the corrected file and delete the original.

I agree with your guess earlier in this thread that the goofiness is somehow related to metadata stored with the messed-up images. And I'm assuming that the metadata is somehow getting removed or corrected somewhere along the line in the procedure I've outlined.

But ...

• I don't know which step of the process is responsible for the correction.
• I don't know if all paint programs will work for this. Harold reports past difficulty trying to do the same thing with IrfanView.
• I don't know if other file formats (besides .PNG) will work.
• I don't know if my recipe will always work.

If you're inclined to experiment with this, maybe these hints will help. If not, go ahead and post the goofy images and I'll fix them as I run into them. I signed on as a moderator a few days ago to help with stuff like this.

PS: As I typed this, it occurred to me that it would help a lot to be able to read the metadata. Anybody know offhand how to do that?

I have tried correcting photo orientations with mixed success. I've not tried saving them as .PNG files. And I have no idea if that makes a difference.
Yes on the meta data issues.

And I did discover that my normal holding position on my iPhones equates to "left-handed." Since figuring that out I changed to "right-handed" holding, and the pictures post here properly without alteration. Hmmm...
Fun(?) stuff.

All else fails, there is the possibility of using a real camera.
