Post by FULLMONTIE » Tue Jan 14, 2020 10:25 am

Hello,

My 1942 Van Norman No.12 cutting head ring and pinion gears are shot. Is there anyone that has a spare set they would be willing to sell me? You can contact me here or e-mail me at <mwm965@hotmail.com>.

You can see the carnage that I posted on this subject:

The Van Normans had vertical heads and sub heads, to where any angle could be achieved. What is the collet size, V5 / 5V ? I have to know a few dimensions before further discussion because I have a sub head.

Hello spro, My machine has been modified by someone in the past to use R8 collets. The sub head / cutting head on my machine is original to the machine, but with a modified spindle for R8.

Mine is a sub head to the larger Van Normans. We need a few measurements. I'm not sure it will fit correctly to the No. 12. Your quest must have revealed other options . Mine uses the original V 5C collets . That was the way to denote the meaning of "C" . It was circular with a key slot in the taper. It appeared as a "c" .
