My Bench Mill

Post by wrmiller19 »

It's taken a while, but I think I finally have it set up the way I want it. (that and I'm running out of room to hang stuff...)

Suggested by a friend. Sounded like a good idea at the time. :)

If he wanted Spanish, yes. But that is the common Americanized version. Half the startup bars/restaurants/whatever in this area seem to be putting up signs including "El Hefe" somewhere in the text. El Hefe Bar and Grill, El Hefe Mexican Restaurant, El Hefe tattoo, El Hefe... I Don't recall ever seeing El Jefe used locally, and a quick Google sniff supports.

In any case, congrats on achieving your goal (I've forgotten what that feels like). Looks like a nice setup.

Is a very nice shiny bench mill.... again....very nice.

El Hefe? Must be a Phoenix thing... :D
Does 'como usted frijoles el caballos' work in Phoenix??
Changing times maybe......

I grew up closer to Tucson...maybe the language wasn't fractured so bad a little further south...

I have been living/working in CO for the last three years, but spent the previous 15 in Tucson. And will be going back as soon as I can pitch this day job. I'm just a gringo guys, and took the usage as proffered. No offense intended. :)

The mill is just a RF45 on steroids, but it will suffice until I get back to Tucson when I will then get my small knee mill.

No worries, no language police here, just bantering a bit.

Beats me on the fractured language thing. My Spanglish is just barely functional. I think this may be the one that started it, at least the first I recall noticing a while back.

I had it buried under a pile of chips the other day. Happens fairly often. :)

It typically takes longer to clean up than to make the mess. To me it's just nice to start with a clean machine when I start something.

You know, I used to be the same way. Still am for the most part, but not as anal as I used to be about it. Back when I had the little Rockwell lathe I went through, after every time I put it to work, when the task was done, I swept off and vacuumed up all the chips, wiped it down with a clean oiled rag, and threw a canvas drop cloth over it. I still usually clean up the chips, and frequently do wipe it down and reapply oil, though usually only when I note the discolored lube on the surfaces. I like to say that it is because the lathe is much better designed to flush it's own ways with pressure lube, but the truth is I've just grown pretty complacent about it. But the ways (and much below them) stay pretty much wet with oil, and that's the most important thing. Saves far too limited time spent on more productive aims...
