Bridgeport shell mill

Post by Hanz »

I tried out this 6 insert 3 inch shell mill for the first time yesterday- I was concerned that it was too large for the BP- but it worked absolutely great, at least on cast iron. Probably much easier on the machine than the bang bang of a single tipped flycutter.

Hanz, Hope this works and bear with me on this basic question. I have a Bridgeport as well and find the piledriver like thump thump of the fly cutter unsettling. Wondering if the enco arbors are any good and if the shell mills with one inch bores could be used on my right angle arbor(enco-taiwan) with one inch bore fo some applications. Sort of a vaugue question, guess the point is buy cheap or go for quality. Thanks, Mike

I would think that for some applications it would be fine, you can adjust the depth of cut and feed to how much wear and tear it is giving the machine. Enco tooling is fine in my book, although I do feel a little guilty about sending US dollars overseas, I have all domestic machines so I feel better...

Looks like a face mill?
I thought I had the only BP painted yellow.

It's a metallic olive green, I think it looks better in person, and definately not worth my time to repaint. Did you buy yours off ebay last summer? I saw one on there painted Cat yellow, I thought it looked great.

Hanz,
Not from eBay, but I located it online in NJ. I plan to repaint it some other color.
