Cute, but what are they?

Post by lylekelley3 »

Here are the links to pictures of a couple of small bench lathes that I have had given to me. I was told that the black one, was a sales model. But the blue one is unknown. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Not many clues offered

Not many clues to go on.... just because it is a small benchtop lathe does not mean it is a salesmans model.

Some questions I see asked at the Antique Machinery Foruminclude:

Any manufacturers names, casting numbers, serial numbers on the headstocks or bed ways?

Are there dials on the cross-slides? Are the spindles hollow or solid?

Size (swing, distance between centers)?

Some of the castings have a number cast into them, but it is just a number. will get a list of the numbers and where they are and post them later. There doesn't appear to be any other markings on it (at least I haven't found any yet) but I will keep looking.

The blue one looks like one that was sold under the names AA, Dunlap, Craftsman.

Here's yours:

and here's the AA

Compound, tailstock and the crank on the end of the leadscrew look the same. Headstock is slightly different, but they changed over time.

For reference, here's the other one:
