Palmgren drill press

Post by tackit »

After years of fighting a sears drill press when I built my new shop I wanted a HD drill press that would drill accurate holes in heavy steel. I tried a Palmgren machine this time and am glad I did, it's been a very accurate drill press with none of the problems the lighter duty sears gave me.

The head is very heavy, takes two men to lift it onto the column. and best of all the drill comes out the bottom on the same plane it went in on.

It's their 3/4HP X 17" bench model.

I prefer bench models because I belive their shorter columns are stiffer.

The rear tube holds a 6" Plamgren sliding vise.

Likely a non-issue in that the column comes in to play only between the table and spindle, so the effected length is identical. If a floor model has a larger diameter column, could be it would be all the more rigid.

Nice drill press!
