wip - smaller version of Webster

Post by sorveltaja »

I have started to built smaller-scale Webster four-stroke engine http://home.comcast.net/~webster_engines/.

It will have 7mm(0.275") bore, and 10mm(0.393") stroke, so it's about 1/3 of the original drawings size.

For carburetion I'm going to try 'petrol vapour carburetor' as described on Jan Ridder's site: http://heetgasmodelbouw.ridders.nu/Webp ... ameset.htm

Ignition will be piezo-operated, and idea for it came also from Ridder's site.

To find out how those work on smaller size, only way is to actually build them, I guess.

Spark plug is also going to be so small, that I'll have to make it myself.

Anyway it's interesting thing to try to build all those.

Here first picture of the project:

Only those gears are ready-made ones that I found from my junkbox.

Cylinder and piston are missing, because cast iron bar that I ordered for those, hasn't came yet.

Current progression altogether:

A wonderful small engine. I will have to follow the progress on the other thread now perhaps. Iron or alloy for the piston? I think aluminum but I should read first. Piezio is so right but an extra cam to snap it. I don't usually read about these because I fear it would be too interesting.
Thanks for the photos and welcome to the Group.
