Grizzly G9729 Oil Leak

Post by Dozerash »

I have a Grizzly G9729 3 in 1 and I have had a leak for awhile on it somewhere from the gear box, looks like from the cover gasket on the side of the box.
Anyone else with one of these machines have the same problem? If so how hard and expensive to fix? Can I get parts from Grizzly?
I’ve had this machine for well over ten years, I picked it from the warehouse in Pennsylvania. It’s never given me any problems. I’ve been happy with it for the small jobs I do.
Thanks!

On my machine (similar design), that round thing (under the chuck) is a sight glass. The oil level should be no higher than the top of it. Is your oil level too high, maybe?

I think it’s low. I need to dig out the book and see where to fill it and what type of oil. I don’t see oil in the site glass.

To answer your question, Grizzly should have parts for your lathe. They are historically quite good at supporting their products.
I have acquired some parts from them for my G0709 lathe. In stock and quickly delivered.

I ordered the parts from Grizzly, should be here in a couple of days! I have some 30weight non detergent oil to refill the gearbox.

I too would be interested in knowing what you did. My machine has had a leak like that for years. When I installed new bearings in the lathe a couple of years ago I put a new gasket around the back plate and used ultra black when I did it but I still have the leak. I just wipe it up and keep adding oil.
