Re: New machined Stephenson links from Allen Models
they look really nice...
the question begs to be asked..if you are cutting them with a wire...why the big 'mickey mouse ears' on the ends?

Too many things going on to bother listing them.

Good question. Steve strongly believes in notching out the corners to prevent jamming. I don't think that will be a problem on this part given the accuracy, but it doesn't hurt anything.Bill Shields wrote:they look really nice...

Re: New machined Stephenson links from Allen Models
the jamming is because of radius interference caused by the diameter of the cutter.
when you are cutting with wire at 0.008" diameter, the radius can be very small.
you are correct - doesn't hurt anything but looks a little strange for a wire part.

Re: New machined Stephenson links from Allen Models
Any reason to be concerned with stress risers? The large radius in the corners would go a long ways towards lowering them, so they may be a benefit.

Re: New machined Stephenson links from Allen Models
no....is not a problem.
been making these links with wire for years with a .008" radius in the corner and they never break.
a SHARP corner is another matter, but .008, as small as it seems, is above that threshold

Hi All
I have a set of these links and blocks. They are even better looking when you hold them in your hand. I still remember machining my set 30 years ago and wish I had this option back then.

No question what they are a good product. Wire cutting hardened tool steel gives surfaces and dimensions virtually unheard of 35 years ago without hours in a Moore Jig Grinder.
I put AF NYLON bearings in mine 20 years ago (have a MITS WEDM MACHINE) and forget about them other than to splash some oil in their general direction every day or so when running.

Nice! Bruce Ward was the first person I know of to use the wire EDM machine method. He had them made for his Garrett which has Walshertz valve gear. They were simply beautiful and Bruce was very happy with them.

Holes in corner works as a wipe also. Dusty out there. But most likely block never see that far in the travel.

I assume this is not a one time production run?
