I am not familiar with a "teardrop throttle valve" for steam.
Educate me please?

Tear drop generally related to the shape of the port...not how it is actuated.

I have seen tear drop rotary throttles, push pull linear throttles, ball valves with tear drop openings and upright slider throttles.

Almost all can be made to fit in the described loco, but generally have to be made to fit...unless you are designing the boiler internals around the throttle to begin with.

Most of the off-the-shelf throttles I have seen come from the UK.
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

AKA “v-port (or v-ball) ball valves”. I looked into this, but everything I found were larger pipe sizes, such as 1/2” npt or bigger.

Avco (avcovalve.com) sells v-port ball valves down to 1/4” npt, but you’ll need to find a distributor of theirs.

I think that some fuel valves are made this way for IC engines of the model/tractor variety... Might look at these antique valves.
