(note: this item was listed previously and then taken off the market for a while; there were enough changes to the description plus a new photo that I thought it would be best to start a new thread for it rather than revive the old one):
Ian Welch has decided to part ways with this stunning model after many years of faithful service.
Garratt #27 is the only type like it in the world and is loosely based on the 2 foot gauge South African NGG 16 rendered in 7 1/4 inch gauge. This engine can be re-gauged to 7.5” without too much effort due to the outside frame power bogies.
Due to its articulation it will handle a 35ft turning radius with ease.
This was the last model that Harold Sinclair built and was finished off by master builder Paul Newton due to Harold’s deteriorating health.
The engine has just received a new NZ model boiler certificate which is valid for the next 4 years. The boiler is a Briggs type boiler with steel fire tubes and a copper heat exchanger in the firebox.
The engine has two steam pumps; one air pump and the other being a water pump to fill the boiler. Both of these have recently been overhauled due to many years of use. The air pump operates the brakes, the air reverser and drain cocks.
The engine also comes with 1 injector with provisions for a second.
Note this engine weighs around a tonne (1000kg or 2,200lbs) so you will have to have a vehicle of appropriate capacity to transport it. The engine does come apart easily into its three main components for transport.
The engine can be shipped anywhere in the world at buyer’s expense.
Price is $40,000 USD, firm.

A little locomotive with 4 wheels on the track is a lot more fun
than a 1/2 finished one with 16 wheels on the bench!
