12” gauge Ottaway

Post by Glenn Brooks »

1950, 12” gauge, coal fired 4-4-0 Ottaway locomotive, tender, and two passenger cars, approximately 1200# coal.

12” diameter code boiler. Retubed by prior owner at Everett Engineering, the code boiler shop in the Pacific Northwest, approximately 20 years ago.

Locomotive and train set lightly used as a backyard railroad since new. Fired up Approximately 5-6x/yr over the past 20 years.

I rebuilt the front end three years ago for enhanced steam making capacity. Installed all new plumbing and 4 nozzle Lempor type blast pipe. Locomotive steams very well, runs at 145 psi. Also renewed tender tank bottom with new steel plate, and professional rebuilt both injectors.

Locomotive and tender professionally powder coated black and green in Northern Pacific colors.

Available in Seattle, Washington. Will assist with crating. Shipping at your cost, or local pick up.

Asking $35,000. Reasonable offers considered.

Does it come with the pull rope for manually opening the safeties?

Sam, I’ve taken the safeties off to ventilate the boiler, but, yes, one can rig a line to pull open the pop valve.

Update: Actually, in my present configuration I mount a Kunkle safety valve in one hole and the whistle in the other. One could mount two safeties and plumb the whistle off a secondary steam line.
