?? Flat Belt-driven Machinery . . . Target Driven Speed?

Post by gwrdriver »

My question is, . . would flat belt-driven agricultural machinery, a thresher maybe, have been designed to have a target or average RPM at the driven pulley? Along the same lines what would the target RPM of a primary overhead machine shop lineshaft have been?

The reason for my question is I want to design a gear train which will produce a realistic RPM range on a drive pulley of known diameter, from a steam engine of known RPM.
