1950-1952 Locomotive Cyclopedia

Post by Atkinson_Railroad »

“Locomotive Cyclopedia” has had its own thread here on the board at one time from December of 2014, but I’m
not able to find the actual discussion when scrolling back through the messages to bump
the thread.

Anyway…

The 1950-1952 Locomotive Cyclopedia published by Simmons-Boardman is on the Internet at the URL below.

https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id= ... 2;size=125

It’s somewhat confusing to me as to how this particular cyclopedia is on the Internet while earlier books
remain off the web due to copyright.

The 1950-1952 cyclopedia covers the transition from steam to diesel.
You’ll find lots of first generation diesel info, and great end-of-steam era data.

If you've not looked at one of these massive books in a while, throw another log on the fire and enjoy scrolling the many, many drawings, advertisements, and then some.

I have an original 1919 Locomotive cyclopedia in good condition if any one is interested. $200 includes shipping to the lower 48.
