First Train on the F&CC
Saturday, April 28, 2018, we ran the first train on the Freeland & Copper Creek. We started building the railroad Labor Day weekend 2017. We finally have enough track down to run a work train. Thanks to John Atkinson, Bill Felton, Al and Alan Francis, George Neuenfeldt, and especially my wife Karen for their help getting this far. I think my grandson, Noah, is the happiest to be running trains!

I like the plastic ties. The tie plate and screw holes are molded in. Assembly is really fast.
I don't know about the tamping - we haven't done much yet. First we graded the right of way, then spread the sub-ballast. We are laying the track on the sub-ballast. I'm going to wait until all the track is down and I am happy with the line before we ballast and tamp.

Re: First Train on the F&CC
All new and rebuilt mainline on the C&IG is
plastic ties.
We put a wood tie every ten feet or so with a hole drilled in it. A length of rebar with a plate on top is driven in until the plate sits on thevtie.
The rod helps keep the track from moving from side to side with expansion and contraction. The plate helps prevent vertical movement.
The side to side movement over time loosens the ballast then vertical movement picks the track right up out of the ballast.
That’s a great looking track Marty! The kiddos will really enjoy it!

So proud to know you. I hope you have a great time and take lots of pictures though the years. You are a man that has done so much for this hobby and I for one admire you. Have a great time and teach that youngster of yours and hope he follows in his Grandfathers foot steps. If he turns out to be haft of what you have done, he will be just fine.
Thank You
Steve Your friend. well hope so.

Hi Marty
Where did you purchase the plastic wood? Is it available as 2" x 2"?
Thanks

And there are regional dealers for their products.
For example, I believe Allen Models supplies much of the Western US.
I could be mistaken...
