I am taking this project in an entirely new direction that I believe will benefit the community. I decided to create a GIT repository for my GE 44ton locomotive. GIT is basically version control, which is a standard in the computer programming world, but has been increasingly used for projects involving a lot of cad files.
What this basically means is that you can either download the files directly, or you can create a free GIT account which will allow you to make a "fork" of the project. With your own personal "fork", you can make changes to the project, while incorporating changes that I make to the main project. The changes you make to your own fork can be submitted(pull request) to me, and I can incorporate the changes to the main project if I like them. This basically turns my locomotive project into a community project.
GIT takes some practice getting used to it, but it is well worth it.
Here is the link to the project,
https://github.com/RB211/GE-44ton-Locomotve
Some notes, this project will stay a "Solid Works" project since the Experimental Aircraft Association has made a student edition of the cad package available to its membership which costs 40$ a year. For Fusion360 users, you can still import the project files and convert them yourself, but if you want to contribute I request you use SolidWorks.

Be sure to share it! With my design, you'd probably want to make the truck frames 1/2" instead of 1/4"

WJH,

Thank you for making your GE 44 ton project open-source. I believe this will be the path to future success for the Live Steam hobby. Open-source has done wonders for the software sector. Even Microsoft incorporates open-source in their products!

I suggest you label your project as open source so that users know what their rights are regarding its use. An easy way to do this is to apply a "Creative Commons" license to each file. See this link for more information:

https://creativecommons.org/share-your-work/

For example, drawings that I create for the IBLS are marked as follows:
Copyright 2018 Daris A Nevil, IBLS
License: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International
In Fusion360 I add a "Comment" field to each drawing containing the text above.

For those that may not know what "Open-source" means, please see this Wikipedia article:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_source

Regards,
Daris

Are there any dimensions I'm in the process of building this engine in 2 1/2 scale for 7 1/4 gauge

I've changed my mind (again) got tired of the old one LOL I''m going to 2" scale and 7 1/4 gauge, a friend has loaned me an April 1973 Model Railroader mag that has a center fold the GE 44 tonner, the nice part about 2" scale is just double all the feet into inches , such as 30' = 60" almost to easy.

The September 1978 Model Railroader also has GE 44-tonner drawings, as do several issues (#51, 52) of Extra 2200 South magazine.
