Old boxcar plans?

Post by DianneB »

I am thinking of adding a boxcar to my 7.5" ga. LE American and looking for plans.

The older the style the better. I am trying to stay 1860s if possible.

May make them ride-on if my little 4-4-0 can pull them up the grade but I can add the internal structure to carry a rider's weight.

I see there are lots of boxcar plans on the Internet but it is hard to sort out early models and readable FREE plans!

Can anyone point me to suitable plans?

Thanks guys!

Diane...if you have access to the library of Train Shed Encyclopedias...might start there. I know they have "volumes/books" that feature 1800's ear equipment. Carl B.

Thanks guys!
August to Oct 1987 issues of Modeltec have a build series by George Dean that might be of interest. April 1988 Live Steam has an article by John Livingston that might also help. These should be in the MLS clubhouse. If not, I have copies.

I have a copy of THE AMERICAN RAILROAD FREIGHTCAR as well as CAR BUILDERS CYCLOPEDIA 1937. There is a lot in these two books that might help. They both contain stuff from the era you are looking to model. You can borrow them if you want.

We have the drawing for the original version (cast aluminum) that has some basic dimensions on it. If interested, email me.
