Does anyone have drawings or pictures of arch bar trucks with outside hung brakes?
These would have been used on narrow gauge trucks with 3'7" wheel base.
Thanks

Re: Looking for info on Arch Bar Trucks
Good Lord, John,
Where to start?
http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=3%2 ... ORM=HDRSC2
http://dougsrrshop.com/misc%20railroad% ... rchbar.htm
http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Arc ... ORM=RESTAB
Supplier in 1-1/2" which would be 4-3/4" gauge:
http://branchlineproducts.com/catalog/trucks.html
Now you are going to say, wait, most of these have the brakes hung inside. True, but if they are D&RGW or RGS cars, many had their brakes mounted this way. Someone else can correct me, but I believe the outside brake trucks that did NOT have extended sideframes had their brakes hung from the car body, simple enough to do.
There are a few here:

Have fun!
Brian

Yes, I think in this case the brakes where hung from the car body. That is the detail I am looking for.I believe the outside brake trucks that did NOT have extended sideframes had their brakes hung from the car body, simple enough to do.
BTW thanks for the links.

You are correct that most of the D&RG narrow gauge trucks have the outside brakes hung from the car body. There are oak blocks between the sills and both the brake hangers and safety links attach to the blocks via J bolts.
I should have a bunch of photos but can't find any at the moment. Ask again next May!

What you need to look at are carter bros style trucks. They have the extended bars to the outside where the rigging hung from. Maybe Curtis Ferrington will chime in, he has done a lot of research on carter bros trucks. If you have the West Side Pictoral by Mallory you could see the examples.

The caboose I am building is based on but not exactly the C&S shortie. I have pictures that show the outside brakes and they look like they are hung from the main body. Thats where my info stops.
The trucks would not be Carter nor do they have the extended arch bars.
Thanks for all the input BTW.

AAAAAhhhhhh...
Gotcha, John.
How about this:
http://www.brasstrains.com/Classic/Prod ... boose-1009
Now, the wheelsets on the bobber cars did not rotate, so everything is fixed. Looks like they are hung from rod in a U shape that is tied to the car floor, but the mount is not detailed. I would assume something like a pillow block to allow some rotation back and forth.
The brakes hung outboard on the four wheel truck cars would have to have more play to take into account of the trucks rotating around the kingpin.

John,
Go to the Sandy Ridge and Clear Lake Railway pages, and click on "Updates". May 2012 has two good photos of their new caboose, but go further down and look at construction photos for their flatcars. Many moons ago they had the drawings for all of these posted on their web site, but they have taken them down. I heard that one of the vendors made a comercial deal with them for the drawings, but they have yet to re-appear. Perhaps an email to them, they could help you out.
