Anybody have a wire EDM?

Post by Bentworker »

I can make these out of stainless on my milling machine and finish them off with a file but they take hours to make.

Anybody willing to try a small run on a wire EDM?

Check out the attached photo. Wall thickness of the circumference is .5mm

Try
Elm Ridge Mfg, Bill Ester.

Indepence, Oregon.

Several years ago Bill EDM machined gorgeous Walshearts (sp?) links for my 2-8-2.
He used to machine the small valves for Cole's Power Models back in the day.
He's got the skills and machinery, and appears to be relatively close to you, being the "State of Jefferson."

Mike:
I don't remember exactly, but I THINK I paid Bill somewhere in the mid $200s. I supplied the tool steel plate. Sorry for the inexactness...
When I saw the price for similar links from Allen Models, I thought "Close!"

It was an "experiment" for him to use his newly acquired and rebuilt EMD. But the results are fantastic.
Certainly better than I could have done in my home shop.

I can do these, hobby rates but not free. How thick may have stainless to suit.
