Drum pedal repair

Post by SteveM »

This is the stuff I love about having machines and tools.

Drum instructor (professor, actually), hands me a drum pedal, missing a bearing and the crank lever for the return spring. Says "Can you fix this?". As a fellow I used to work with said "whatever the question, the answer is 'yes'".

Didn't want to use a rectangular bar with sharp corners, my rotab doesn't fit the P&W 3C and I didn't feel like spending a lot of time at the belt sander, so I opted for a round piece of stock. Drilled the bore, drilled and tap for the setscrew, drilled and tapped for the spring bushing screw and made the bushing out of Delrin AF. Replaced the bearing with an inline skate bearing and it's all good.

Brought it in today and he couldn't believe his eyes.

Previously, I fixed a mounting bracket for the congas.

Told them if they find anything else, let me know.

Steve

Very cool!
I too enjoy the ability to fix that which is broken.

I've gotten a lot of that over the years when I've fixed stuff for people.

Best one I did was to repair a clock. Lady boss walks up to Me and lays a box down with a disassembled clock in it. She said it fell off the wall and She did not want to bu another one.I said I would try but had no clock experience. She said just don't tell Me You fixed it in 5 minutes because I tried all afternoon and could not fix it. Only 8 gears so not a terrible amount of combinations. Took it in to Her and told Her it did take 10 minutes. :). Cussing, cussing, and more cussing.

Nice job Steve!

Feels good to be able to do the stuff that most others can't!
