Well you did get a free one that works like the standard nuts. Do you really need a high-speed friction bearing nut on a 7" X12" lathe? It is a bit of over kill as the highest speed of your spindle is what - about 4000 rpm? A standard nut would have been quite adequate. Rego-Fix has a great reputation in industry. They are a little pricey for the general home shop machinist though.

Thanks, Cary. Good research. So it is definitely NOT appropriate for my Grizz 7X12! As far as pushing the the nut down on the collet until it snaps in: I'd have to weigh considerably more than I do (170) to get that to work. I'm really happy with the Hi-Q model REGO sent me.

IF ANYONE OUT THERE WANTS MY REGO HK/ER32 NUT, JUST LET ME KNOW. YOU COULD GET IT CHEAP :D

Quite right, Cary. I didn't know when I bought it at a garage sale that it was that advanced a tool. I general turn at about 800-1200 RPM. The one they sent me is just what I need-- perhaps even a couple of classes up. But it is sure nice to look at and to tighten down on my LMS collet chuck.

Just some food for thought: The Myford M-2 collets are similar in that they have no eccentric. They use a tube and pin arrangement to compress the collet down so it can be inserted into the clamping ring (which threads onto the spindle nose). Maybe this ring had a similar arrangement. (???)

Thanks for the suggestion, but... I don't see any signs of this. And my machine doesn't have a threaded spindle in any case.
