Is MSC Totally Useless?

and around $165 for the fractionals. How the hell do they get away with charging five times that!! I bought mine from Suncoast...

MSC is $169.56 for the fractional set.

I went back a few posts and see where the p/n thing was sorted out. Some of the prices are still way high I think... but then I'm a bit behind..

I am registered and logged in. I went to the MSC site and get this back:

It appears you get a better price with no Promo code.

I need to find out how to get that .

How is $474.10 better than $410.88?

I log in, and get the $410.88 price.

I entered the JUN40 promo code, and got a price of $397.28. Got freight in there though ($12.97)....I believe since it's a non-stock item, and ships direct I haven't paid freight in years with MSC, with any order over 50 bucks. I do live right down the road however.

Took a quick check....when I logged in and checked the price, it automatically adds promo code JUN25H, and I get the $410.88 price.

If I add the JUN40 code, I get $397.28.

If I remove both codes, the price goes to $ 428.88.

Price with JUN40 code alone, is still $397.28

Logged out, price is $632.13.

That is what I mean it is confusing, you get the $410 price automatically, I only get
it if I enter the jun35 code. That implies you get the "35%" all the time??

Oh well, I usually check around take the best I can get.

MSC told me I get 25% off all the time, but I suspect that means, "We jack up our prices so we can give you 25% off."

In any case, I was right about Suncoast being WAY cheaper. Shipping costs about 10 bucks.

Something you should know about tools.....

I worked for an equipment dealer for about 5 years. Among other things we sold, were tools. We were a dealer for Proto, Jet, Armstrong, OTC, Enerpac, to name a few.
We never sold anything at list price....unless we hated you.
Our "list price", was 30% off what most of the tool companies gave us for the recommended list.
We could take 30% off of our list, and still make money...and good money. It varied, but was 30% or more, still after a 30% discount, on most tools.
The worst and highest markups, was with toolboxes. We also did Kennedy. The money we made on most of those things was scary good.

It makes it easy to have a sale, and declare "ALL PROTO TOOLS ARE 30% OFF LIST PRICE THIS WEEK ONLY!"
What that meant, was we were only making 60%.


Shop. Do a little homework.
Pick the best price, keep in mind the service.
And then buy.
It's a game.

Remember Enco? Far as I know, there were four prices for hobby machinists: the regular price, the sale price with red numbers, the price with a code, and the sale price with a code added. If I recall correctly, there were also times when you could use two codes. I never heard of Enco telling one person one thing and another person something completely different. I remember when there were discussions of Enco prices on the forum; no one ever said their discount was better than someone else's. I'm sure when Boeing or some other huge company bought stuff, they got a bigger break, but it didn't work that way for people like me, buying $200 or $400 worth of stuff at a time.

I can't figure out how to deal with MSC, so I'm buying from other companies.

Register.
Sign in.
Check your price.
Apply any codes you have.
Add in the freight, if there is any.
Check everywhere else.
The one with the best price wins.
Buy it from the winner.

No, it ain't like Enco. A good one bites the dust.
That said, if MSC has the best price, which they often do, they win.
I don't buy as often form MSC, as I did from Enco, but I still do.
Don't look, don't shop, it's your money.
