cleaning taper sockets

Post by TRX »

I've seen the "orange juicer" tools for cleaning big ISO tapers, and some for Morse tapers. But is there any tool that is useful for cleaning R8 and 5C tapers?

I used to blow them out with compressed air, but the new neighbors and the compressor aren't compatible.

Bottle brush? I can't see into the R8 taper. Well, I guess I could if I used a mirror...

I have one I bought years ago at a machinery show for the R8. They are available, just remove the locator pin that isn't needed anyway.

There is no reason to remove the locator pin if the taper surfaces are clean. There are brass brushes which are like expanded barrel cleaning tools. They will clean without scoring hardened steel.
Thanks for this tip because mine is getting flat worn out.
