Good price for 1144 round at Fastenal

Post by martik777 »

Just got some .750 OD 12' of 1144 for $37 pickup at store. Lowest prices I've ever seen.

https://www.fastenal.com/product/raw-ma ... lyId=26775

The same piece in Canada was quoted at a whooping $325 CAD, luckily I am 15 mins from the border

I take it, at that price, the steel is mill finish, not TGP. What did Canada Customs have to say about you crossing the border with a dangerous weapon? :D

Thanks! I had no idea they sold raw materials. And they have multiple local stores.

That's slightly more than I pay here in Portugal.

Around $4 per kilo, $1.81 per pound, for most grades of engineering steel in various dimensions. Drawn steel only slightly more.

Black mild steel only costs 1/5 as much and is close to home, weekly delivery in my area if required.

I have a local store in Canada but they wouldn't sell it to me, supposedly "out of stock"

I’m going to visit my local store and see what they say.

Last fall I went to the local Fastenal store. They had a sign static that they would only sell to business accounts.

Fastenal is truly an enigma. My local experience indicates that their policy is all over the map---that they do or don't sell broken boxes, that they do or don't sell with or without an account--that they do or don't charge a delivery fee when something is ordered that is not in stock--that their price on any given object or group of objects is the highest on the market.

I use them only when I am out of options.

When I was Maintenance Manager for the Seattle Center Monorail, the local Fastenal rep came in and tried to get us to order through their local store.
Their varying rules were so problematic, and the products overly expensive, that we happily stayed with several of Seattle's old and reputable local suppliers.
Slam dunk decision.
