Removing double ear crimp clamps O clips From Air Hose

Post by pollys1dad »

Hi,
What would be the best way to remove these double ear crimp clamps O clips, ideally without damaging the hose? The other jubilee clips are straightforward to remove.
Thanks.

A Dremel-type rotary tool with cut-off blade also works well.

Hi,thanks. I have a set of bolt cutters but the angle cutters with reference to the face of the heads, are not close enough, flush with the head, to wide.

OK, didn't think of that, Googled diagonal side cutters, the Knipex ones, seem man enough for the job and stand up to repeated use if needed.

" For very tough, continuous use
High cutting performance with minimum effort due to optimum co-ordination of the cutting edge angle and transmission ratio
Precision cutting edges additionally induction hardened (cutting edge hardness approx. 64 HRC), for all sorts of wire including piano wire
Chrome vanadium heavy-duty steel, forged, multi stage oil-hardened
The 250-mm-long diagonal cutter is suitable for copper conductors up to 16 mm² and aluminium conductors up to 35 mm²

Head: polished
Cutting capacities medium hard wire (diameter): 4.6 Ø mm
Cutting capacities hard wire (diameter): 3.5 Ø mm
Cutting capacities piano wire (diameter): 3.0 Ø mm
Length: 250 mm "
Best price I could get in UK was £29.96 and also delivery was faster than anyone else.
Cheers for advice :)

Thanks for the input but should have it sorted with the Knipex cutters I just bought.

I bought an almost £30 set of Knipex diagonal cutters wouldn't cut the ear of the crimps off, so am returning for a refund. I then bought a Dremel clone type tool. Tried to cut off the ears but no luck, then just tried to cut through the single band of crimp, cut through it quite easily.
Thanks.

My Snap-On Lineman Pliers do that easily.

While there are many great suggestions above, not one of them suggested WHERE to cut. I have great luck with cutting the "crimp" ear off on one side and then opening the clamp to remove it.

Twisting the ear always gets its attention.
