Mystery collet identification

Post by SteveM »

I bought a box of collets to get five that I needed.

There were some DA collets in there and four that I could not identify.

There are two of one and one each of the other two.

I've attached a picture with dimensions.

On all of these collets, the drawbar threads into the back of the collet, like an R8.

Anyone know what these are?

Also, I have 5 DA300 and 2 DA200 collets, based on the sizes I found here
http://www.tools-n-gizmos.com/specs/DA_Collet.html

If any long-term member of the board wants them, I will send them for free. You might have to wait until I find my stash of padded envelopes.

Machinery's Handbook has the info you seek, both drawings of the different geometries and associated dementia. (pun intended)
As soon as my phone manages to download the photo to my computer I will share those two pages.
Pages 966 and 967, edition 25 (?).

Russ,

What is that listed in in the index?

I have the 22nd edition and it doesn't have "collets" in the index.

Normally, I use the 17th edition, and that one DEFINITELY doesn't have collet dimensions.

Steve:
25th Edition, indexed as "Collets."
You might be able to enlarge the photo above to read the data.
I can provide a LARGE format photo if desired.

The two on the right just might? be for what's known as a Capstan (UK term) or Turret (U.S. term) lathe attachment. One trick I've used in the past is to search using Google Images, sometimes you get lucky and can spot what you have then click on that pictures website for further information.

We just used that trick to find a replacement weatherstrip for someone. Very handy.

Just to let everyone know, I have takers for the DA collets. I just need to find my padded envelopes.
