Thinking about Technical Achievements, this second "sky crane" rover landing on Mars is truly a spectacular achievement!
I look forward to the coming years of information gathered by "Percy".
And I salute all those capable people involved in its bold creation and travels!
Thank You all for continuing to advance our Human knowledge.
Very refreshing these days.

Perseverance lands on Mars!
Re: Perseverance lands on Mars!
Mind numbing, really. So many things had to go right, and they did!
It's a proud day for science and America.

Wise people talk because they have something to say. Fools talk because they have to say something.
Re: Perseverance lands on Mars!
Watched it live , well as live as it could be given the delay here in the UK. You have to give NASA credit when it comes to landing on Mars they have it nailed. The landing was like one of thoses long journey, time filling questions. If you had to land on Mars what would be the most complicated way you could come up with?
What a presentation it must have been. We have this great idea, first we start with a parachute, jettison that and go to a rocket, then drop it on ropes, blow them off and fly off to safe distance.
Gotta have been a double espresso day before they started that power point.

The decent and landing delivery method does seem complicated, compared to past deliveries.
But considering all of the variables of touchdown, this method decreased or eliminated many potential issues, especially for a 2200 lb. rover!
An interesting example of engineering balance of variables.
Good brains prevailed.

Re: Perseverance lands on Mars!
All--
I always wanted the sky crane to have cameras that would transmit video/stills of its final flight. In the photo taken from orbit, it looks like the sky crane exploded when it crashed . . . you can see fan shaped black wings radiating from the debris, or at least that is my interpretation.

You are what you write.

We just might get to see videos taken by the sky crane on its final trip!
Hope so.

It’s very interesting if there will be traces of life on Mars? Any bacteria or something. But only if they are discovered, no matter how they become the cause of a new pandemic in the world.
