Castellated nut slot depths

Post by EOsteam »

I am fabricating a couple of castellated nuts that have a 7/16" hex and a 5/16-24 thread. They are going to be retained by a 1/16" cotter pin. So far I have cut the slot depths at .0625" and the widths at .0625". What is the accepted standard for slot depths and widths?
Thank you,
Harper

Standards for a 5/16" nut are .093" depth and width of the slot.

This information is readily available in Machinery's Handbook.

.078" slot width for a 1/16" cotter pin.

Usually, a 5/16" fastener 1/2" hex, would use a 3/32" cotter pin, and a 1/4" fastener 7/16 hex, would use a 1/16" cotter pin.

You have a combination.
