Well, I went and picked up the surface grinder today. Older gentleman, who looked for a hobby when he retired and took up machine tool collecting. Oh, I can guarantee he used them for an extreme hobby machine shop, but now is thinking he wants to get rid of them before he expires. I counted 5 surface grinders, several engine lathes, horizontal mills, Bridgeport knee mill, and tooling everywhere. I think I would have preferred one of the smaller surface grinders, but it would be a task to get them out. I can understand why the Reid was the one to go. It was he one in the center front of the overhead door.
It loaded up on a 20 ft tilt trailer without much issue, and the ride home was fairly uneventful. The fun time came with the unloading. Nothing disastrous, just tedious. It now sits in the center front of my overhead door until I figure out where I want to place it. I told him to contact me when he was ready to part with any other machines, which I will consider purchasing or post here for anyone looking and willing to pick it up .

My nephew got into one of those situations. Old collector guy died and his son wanted the garage cleaned out within 14 days. Some of the stuff still new in boxes, some slightly used, nothing abused.

Nephew paid $4000 for entire shop plus whatever it cost to move it.

Still trying to talk him out of a lathe I want...doubt he will give in..

It happened to a friend of mine;
He had a large and very well equipped machine shop in NH.
He kept telling me how he needed to sell all his machines, because he was worried he'd die and burden his wife with it all.

I thought he was just being morbid. But then he died suddenly from an embolism.
