ID on Cont Cast Iron Bar

Post by gwrdriver »

Can anyone tell me if there is a standard color coding system for ID'ing alloys of continuous cast iron bar (such as Durabar) like there is for rolled steel alloys?

Wish that was true, but there is no standard color coding system for steel alloys.

Every vendor and mill seems to use a different color coding system. I have bars of the same alloy from three different vendors with totally different markings on them. I know the alloys are the same because the bars came with material certifications.

I mark them with a paint stick with the alloy name, like 1144.
