Own a Grizzly 14x40 - G5960 or G7958 Lathe?

Post by Oldguy »

As stated in the subject, If you own a Grizzly 14x40 lathe, I need your help. I bought a collet closer that is made for those lathes and the draw tube is longer than I need on my Morgon 12x36. Can you measure your spindle and let me know? Then I can start chopping and fitting.

Thanks,

Glenn

Glenn,
Any reason why you can't install the collet assembly, then measure how much must be removed? I'd be a little more inclined to think that would be a safe approach, so you end up with the right length.

It will probably come to that, as I haven't had any success in finding anyone with the referenced lathe. Just wanted a number so I would have an idea of where I'm headed. Sort of "If you don't know where you're going, how will you know when you get there?".

Thanks for pulling up this old thread. The collet closer is still on the "to do" list and this will help it move toward the top of the list. The measurement I need is the total length of the spindle. Plus or minus an 1/8 of an inch would be fine. Thanks
