I am trying to help a friend that has a old 1995 series 4000 router.
He had his old hard drive go bad.
Anyone know where i can get a copy 1995 series 4000 AXYZ software.
Do not want to spend 3000 to upgrade, that is what they want.
He runs a small shop and has no money so i am on the hunt to help him out.
He does have a little money to buy a copy.

I don't think you will find anyone that wants to take the risk.

I do not understand risk.
What risk, he has been using machine out in shop for years on that software.
He just wants it back the way it was before hard drive on his computer crashed.
In the past he reloaded floppy A and went back to work as usual.

Its not wrong to help, but keep in mind that this is HIS fault. If he was relying on obsolete software then he should have had it backed up himself, 3 times over. Huge removable hard drives only cost $50 now.

If I were him I would email the company once more explaining that I only wanted another copy of the software I already paid for, and that I don't expect any support for it (which may be their main concern). He should point out that there's no way he could afford to upgrade--so if he can't get the old version, then he would just abandon their products entirely.

Alternately there may be an open-source program that would work (the 4000-series machines appear to be only 3 axis, and there is a few free/open-source options for that). That would involve hassles on his part to learn how to use other software,,,, but once again. This situation is his fault.

There are companies that recover the data off old hard drives. Here is one I found on a search.
http://www.midwestdatarecovery.com/
Perhaps that is an avenue you can pursue.

gtxkid,

I have used this company's software recovery products
since the early 1990's., for my hard drive recovery work
on my own computers.

If you are real good with computers and software this
would be a very good investment for you.

I have used SA Developments (LARGE DRIVE TOOLS)
software to Recover 4 hard drives of my own.
Most of the time all that is wrong is the
Master Boot Record needs to be repaired or replaced.

SA Developments

If you are not comfortable doing your own support, then
you might want to use "Inspector's" recovery guy's he
spoke of or DATA DOCTORS, but they are not cheap.

Just a thought.

Yes he know's it is his fault but i notice him telling me today that he did have back up's.
Problem is they were lost in Hurricane while back and he still has not got caught up from that.
Data recovery starts at like 800 bucks (he checked).

Another guy came today to try and help.
He is an IT guy and spent day fixing up computer and such. No luck
