Ok, yes now I see it. Ok, so there is a part missing.

If anyone ever see a picture of the original, let me know.

Thanks to all for the help. The part is identified!

Hi. I expect you now know more about bench centers than I remember. These things are super critical and measure to .0000- but that means the "tail stock" or what it is called, is a Perfect match. It is beyond my needs but there had/has to be standards to measure near perfection of parts which make other parts.

Exactly. Now I am searching for the tailstock original part.

I have already done some search but it really looks bad. Not even a pic of the complete part available..,,, going to be hard to find it.

I hope you find the original type but in the meantime, let us know the distance between center of spindle and the bed. That's going to require an accurate center or measure.

This may very well have been some sort of metrology device. Try contacting the Fowler Co. in he North East. They may have a history that includes this piece.

Just had a thought. Is that center slot a T-slot? This may work like many of the jewelers lathes.

Another comment. This piece looks like it is covered with grunge but no rust on the bed ways. Are the ways scraped?

I think Watchmakers Lathes are smaller than jewelers lathes but either uses small precision collets. WW(Whitworth) sizes and Boley, Levin and others have a designation # to their body size. 8 is popular but there are other groups. They resemble the smallest R8 you ever saw.
