Show us your milling machine!
Re: Show us your milling machine!
I like watching Adam Booth and Kieth Fenner on their K&T's.
Those machines can go thru anything with ease.
You realize how big one of those is when you watch the video series of Adam building the "parking attachment" for the vertical head. The head probably weighs close to what my Pratt & Whitney mill weighs (180 lbs).
It's so big, maybe they ought to call is a "mooring attachment".

Those K&T ‘s are awesome. When I was looking for my first mill... there was K & T locally which was almost being given away . I forget the price... but it looked like a landlord just wanted it out of his building. Once I looked up it weight...I passed.
Just too much for me. But if I was 30 years younger with a building for it....Yeah, I’d go for it. But it’s a beast of a machine. And in all honesty probably way too much for me if I was even 30 years younger.

That K&T vertical head weighs over twice what your Pratt & Whitney weighs.
I've lusted after a 2CH and/or 2D Rotary head for many years. But the only thing I've seen is a single very rough 2H for sale out here in the desert. An acquaintance down in Tucson has a beautiful 2H with LOTS of accessories, but it make 1 of the 2 I've seen in 10 or so years, and never a 2CH.
Like the shaper I also want, it's probably best that they don't much exist out here. They are really just way to big, and take up room far more practically used for other things. Heh, I don't even push the limits of my 2J turret mills, so it's really a complete fantasy anyway. But still...

I’ve been putting some stored machines back into service lately.
My current project is a small Pratt & Whitney No.3 horizontal mill.
I have the dividing head, collets and vertical head. I still need to hook up the drive.
Keith Drive attached now.

Re: Show us your milling machine!
This old Becker was being loaded onto a scrap truck, destined for destruction when my cousin saved it by offering $100. I ended up with it because his wife said"NO MORE PROJECTS ". It was once owned by the Ordinance Dept. Of the U.S.Army(Stenciled on several surfaces that still had paint). I spent several years spare time restoring it. It is a BEAST when heavy metal removal is needed.
I recently acquired an 80's vintage Lagun FTV2S with 10X50 table, 3 axis powerfeed, DRO, Quill DRO and a shop made pneumatic draw bar.BIG upgrade from the small mill I had before.

I share this sentiment regarding space and probably best that they are rare because I know if a K&T 2D in decent condition ever shows up in my area for the right price it will be coming home with me.
Seriously the 2D IS the ultimate mill.

Re: Show us your milling machine!
You have a really nice Lagun mill.
I have a Lagun FTV-1, CNC mill that is 38 years old and still holds tolerances.
I upgraded the CNC controller and servos about a year ago.

Hi; I found this forum while searching for info about a Logan Mill. From what I read here there weren't many Logan Mills made. Well I have one, and thought you all might like to see some pictures of it. Enjoy. Oh by the way the motor tag says it was made in 1967. JAPAN

Re: Show us your milling machine!
A little Xmas eve sleuthing came up with this -
http://www.loganact.com/history.htm
what's interesting is that Houdaille, which bought the company let the trademark
expire some time after '71 ( ? not clear when in the short history I linked ) so most likely an
enterprising Japanese company or ex employees used the Logan Engineering Co. name to produce a mill.
There is a post on PM that sheds a little more light on it but not by much, there's a dead link to a
file in Yahoo groups - https://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/g ... ll-229418/
And of course there's Vintage machinery catalogs - http://www.vintagemachinery.org/mfginde ... px?id=2093
Found one more tidbit of info - https://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/m ... ll-278571/
