Do you have any youtube users you follow?

Post by SteveM »

I have several youtube pa1ges I go to to get interesting and useful machining tips.

You probably know of Tubal Cain:
https://www.youtube.com/user/mrpete222/videos

and of course, our own trainman Dave:
https://www.youtube.com/user/trainman4602/videos

Here's two others I like:
https://www.youtube.com/user/Halligan142/videos
https://www.youtube.com/user/Figbash3/videos

I like downloading them to my tablet so that I can have something useful to watch when I'm stuck in an airport or just hanging around the shop.

Anyone else have any?

I'm not looking for specific individual videos, but users that post interesting stuff on machining.

Ox's videos are good, but his titles don't tell you anything about the topic, so it's hard to know what you are getting until you are watching it.

Oxtools is a good one but Tom can waft on a bit at times - still doesnts stop me watching his videos - lately he is getting some nice stuff from his viewers hey!

I also subscribe to Tom's Techniques:

And ThatLazyMachninist - he explains things very nicely:

Another interesting one that has nothign to do with machining is Taras Kul - half of his videos are just science experiments but he has some great life hacks that even has my wife subscribing to him now - Check out how to cut a dozen small tomatoes on one go, or how to cut a watermelon so it doesnt mess your face....

Joe Pie comes up with lots of helpful tips on how to do stuff easier and faster.

Robin Renzetti has some interesting stuff. Very high-precision work.
Check out his Renzetti blocks - they make 123 blocks look like a bad joke.

This Old Tony is easily the funniest machinist on youtube:

Stefan Gotteswinter is another one skiled at high-precision wirk.

John Saunders started out with a CNC sherline or something like that in his apartment in New York.
He now has a large CNC machine shop in Ohio.

Using the equipment is obviously helpful. Understanding what it's alignments should be and how to actually test what you have can either tell you what might not be operator error or allow compensations and adjustments to be made. This guy while at the home shop level is very close to a professional status. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCD1jVj ... PHw/videos. Also https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvExaD ... gqcRVmdZyQ

While it's about testing and aligning a cnc bed mill almost all of the checks are applicable to most mill types in one way or another. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HWuhbhySpw&t=4s It's a 9 part series well worth watching for anyone with a mill.

Most of the better manufacturers also have a YT channel. For metrolgy both Mitutoyo and Starrett have past videos where a lot can be learned. And I'm surprised Oxtool (Tom Lipton) hasn't been mentioned yet. https://www.youtube.com/user/oxtoolco/videos
