Chris, where in Germany are you? I frequently go to Leipzig for work as I do flying for DHL, would love to see your work up close. Also, I know you’ve mentioned it before, the way you mount the drivers to the axles, what’s that called?

Hello Steamchris,
Some important progress with your J, congratulation! The day of it's initial first run on air is in sight now, isn't it.
For better understanding the construction of that Timken crosshead for both the A and the J, there are some more photos.
Maybe some other modelers are interested in that careful and proven construction of that Timken crosshead with (clamped) ball bearings?
Both easy to mount and disassamble without any backlash. Grease my be pressed between the bearings by means of a small chanal once a year.

Clamping of the piston rod's end is very rugged! The short thread at the inner end is intended to help adjust the position of the rod

The small end with it's pair of ball bearings will be clamped by means of tapered shaft and splited ring

The tapered splited ring is to be seen. Shaft, inner rings of the bearings and crosshead halfs will be clamped by the cover plate

The final safety spring is still missing, sorry!
