Here is .my solution to alignment and tie down. I think the most used machine in my shop is my Brown and Sharpe horizontal mill.

Had to fab up a super fly. Worked good but .01 a cut at 40 RPM took a while.

In my mind I was going to make a cutter to run on the horizontal arbor with over arm support but the diameter was just a little big.
Started on steam chests but on hold now the vertical mill 2 speed switch is acting up so I ordered one. I hope it's that and not the motor.

A little more detail on the last post
Eye up castings and mark center
Drill and ream a shallow 1/8" hole for pin both ends
Notice in previous pictures the chest is on match plate I used for cylinders . Drill pin location holes in plate
Then all machining and drilling are matched
While vertical mill is down I started the recesse of .060" for steam chest

One chest casting was a little catawampus which caused it to be a pain to deal with but all is well so far.

I've seen a way to apply an outboard bearing on a boring set up like you used. A bracket is attached to the table to support a pillow block. There is a true running extension on the boring bar which is a close fit in the pillow block bearing and the extension is allowed to slide in the bearing. As in your set up the X and Z axis are locked and only the Y moves. Although not as good as an overarm supported bearing, it should add a lot of support to the cutter.
The same idea can be used on a vertical mill with the head turned so the spindle is parallel to the X axis. The pillow block would be mounted to the table with a bracket to support the outboard end of the boring tool. On a Bridgeport type mill one should be able to use the various head adjustments and bore a fairly long hole using the table X feed. (On mine I would probably have to relocate the switch to improve the clearance.)

I appreciate the Info. I had thought of that but didn't have the y travel to get the boring bar and the suport on the table. Turning the fixture for the x axis and using the universal head the center's were farther apart than the travel .

There is counter bore in there. Forgot phone (camera) at house when I returned to shop so not too many pictures

The gland face profile is just sawed and sanded and aligned by eye for bolt location kinda gives the look of a casting.
