Hi Glenn thank you for the compliment.
The plan's and castings came from Tom Artzberger at Hartford Shops. The main frame is about 5 foot long. Sorry about over load of pics I'm trying to catch up with where I'm at in the build. More pics to come but some will not post in the right rotation but I will keep trying. I started the project in July of this year. Thanks Jim

No need to apologize, I’m very much enjoying the pics.
Is Tom still active? Used his ductile iron drivers for my K27. Good castings.

Once running, Toms 10 wheeler is a beautiful locomotive. I have heard there is one issue with the prints though, as drawn, either the back side of the wrist pin can hit the connecting rod or the front crankpin hits the crosshead. I can't remember which off the top of my head though, but something to double check when you get a rolling chassis.

Thanks for the heads up. As you are fully aware all prints should be checked forward of your work before starting. Some adjustments some times have to be made to make things work.Soot n' Cinders wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 9:26 am Once running, Toms 10 wheeler is a beautiful locomotive. Anytime! Definitely pays off to check things as you go. I about wore my shay out testing it as I went, I think I added up about 75 miles dragging the chassis around before it was able to move under its own power, but I had very few issues that first time she ran. Ive seen guys build a complete locomotive and they wind up with trouble on that first trip because there was an error on the prints. Worst I saw was a consolidation without enough swing in the pilot truck, the guy broke a spring pack trying to rerail it when it came off in a curve.djjh87 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 9:44 amThanks for the heads up. You could always add walschaert valve gear to it! I think someone has done this before, so drawings of some kind must exist.
