I may go ahead and make the oak plate to replace the sheet metal piece I have. I remember your being able to switch between the two scales.
Do you offer the coupler mount and hardware I see on the front of your engine?

Coupler pocket on the Shay buffers are fabrications with three slots. Top for draw bar, middle for 2.5" scale and the bottom is for 1.5" scale. You are correct I violated the secret code of silence about the coupler. Sorry.....

Thanks Brian.
Is there a standard for 2.5 scale?

Coupler height for 2.5" scale is 5.4" at center line.

Ok one thing at a time.
After finishing up the equalizer parts, I am now working on the driver box fit. First thing was to get my son to help me lift it up and put it on blocks. This to be able to drop the drivers out the bottom to get the axles out of the way.
The driver boxes are steel with brass shoes on the pedestals. The rear shoe and pedestal on each box is slat cut so that the slack is taken up by sliding the shoe upwards. There was originally a really cheap method of doing this which I am replacing with shim blocks and bolts to hold them in place on the pedestal binders.
The shims are notched to let the bolt come up from the bottom into the shoe. The bolt will tighten down and pull the shoe down to the binder. The notch in the shim will keep it from sliding out from behind the bolt.

Re: Converting a Baldwin 2-4-2 LYN to a Baldwin 2-4-4
Coming along. Not much time in the shop with the son graduating High School this last week. That and a friends wedding eat up a lot of the shop time. Also I should mention a French drain and 200 yards of sod that had to be put down beside the drive way. And also the start of a trailer mod to haul the engines to MSLS to run them.
I had not been too worried about a trailer until I purchased the engines from Larry Kombrink's estate. All of a sudden the trailer became important. As I am only a short distance from the track I decided to modify an old trailer I had. Well that and all my toy money is used up for a while to come.
The Rust Bucket has one more shim to make to get the Driver Boxes all set up. Before going into tightening up the valve gear I want to haul it to the track and pull it around for a bit to loosen it up and see how it handles switches. So the next step is to sit it back down on the track and put the 1.5 scale coupler on it to hook to a 25 Tonner. This I picked up last month along with a gondola and a little Engines American.

You could just make up a drawhead/coupler mount by gluing together pieces of Styrofoam, coat it in ceramic wash, and make a lost foam casting like I did for my Davenport loco:

I'll see if I can find it. But if you want one like John's, it would be a different configuration. Three pockets r/t two, and not as wide.

Unable to load photos for a few days now. Every time I try to upload a photo it goes to the login screen and dumps my typing.
Still intermittent, managed to get this one to upload.
Taking a brake from the American and getting the Rust Bucket ready to pull around the track. Put on a 160 pound chunk of pipe on the front to add ballast with me planning on sitting over the rear truck. This should put it at about 600 pounds.
The plan is to pull it thru all the curves to see if the rear truck has enough swing to keep it on the rails. Also to loosen it up a little.

Re: Converting a Baldwin 2-4-2 LYN to a Baldwin 2-4-4
I am drilling and mounting this over the weekend. After a long list of Honey-do items
It will be temporary so that I an pull the engine around the track with a 1.5 inch gas locomotive. I plan on replacing the red plate with oak.
I understand it needs to be 4 7/16 inches above the rails.
