We had at 2-4-4 forney at our 36" gauge RR for a few years. The rear truck (in addition to being able to pivot) could slide sideways about 12" each way on a set of rollers mounted under the frame. The slide area was maybe an inch or so higher at each end to help it want to stay centered. Because of the slide arrangement, nothing actually held the truck to the frame except the loco's weight. The truck had to be chained up to the frame before the cranes lifted the loco for transport.
Sounds like the sliding block on rods idea is a better arrangement for 7.5" locos however.

Thanks Guys
Found the spring solution on the springs.
Fender had three books for me to look at this weekend.
Now chasing a pair of five and a half inch diameter Spoked wheels for the front truck
I am going to use the four spoked wheels that came with the engine to build up the trailing truck

Home from the road. No modeling but I did get to meet up with Fender for a great weekend.
I did get quite a bit of the drawings done on the Trailing truck. It will end up using the two sets of Boggie wheels off the British Lyn with Dave providing a new set for the leading truck.
Not a great conversion but here is a JPEG of the drawing from the side.

The last driver is back in the tank as it had surface rust on it when I came home. Will try to get both of the last two painted tomorrow.
As the front truck is so different on the American version I am scrapping the leading truck to use the wheels for the trailing truck mod. The Lyn had outside frame trucks where the American 2-4-4 had inside bearings.
These two trucks will give me the wheels and axles for the new trailing truck
In the push to get it running on air i am going to skip the trucks for the moments and work on parts that make it go. After the Drivers and Driver Boxes I am looking at the Stevenson Link parts that will need to bolt on at some point. I will be putting them in the tank this next week.
The Before Photos
I have been doing the Eccentrics as they will need to be on the drivers.

Continuing to strip clean and paint.
Trying to locate a set of the six spoke wheels in England. Will fall back to Dave's 12 spoke if unsuccessfull

Could you purchase the 12-spoke wheels and mill away the unwanted spokes?

Re: Converting a Baldwin 2-4-2 LYN to a Baldwin 2-4-4
That is a thought, but If I can't find one of the original sets I will probably just use them as cast.
I did order a part today from Mike out east. He had it on Ebay.
I have also noticed that not one of the bearings has an oiling set up. So I also ordered 16 various oil cups and such. They are the type with the spring caps and will not be on the scale side.
But as I say I am buildiing this to be fun to run and easy to maintain. Not a real scale project.

Plan is to tear down the leading and trailing British Boggies to use the axlea nd wheels for the trailing truck.
This is how they looked on tear dwon tonight. Actually the heavy pitting almost looks like a cast finish when painted. Well I can dream right.
The last of the drivers being painted along with linkage parts.

A while back it was suggested that you could buy a model of the fourney to use for reference. Now is your chance! They are on sale at trainworld.com for 199.99. According to them they are usually 500.00. http://www.trainworldonline.com/catalog ... comotives/

I will be sending Super Scale a check tomorrow for an enjector and that will be my allownace for the payday.A while back it was suggested that you could buy a model of the fourney to use for reference. Tonight I started dry fitting the Stephenson Linkage and am trying Bill Shields idea on laping in the valves.
I brough this home on 17 Feb and today is April 4. I am hoping to have it on air by December and running on a boiler the year after. Feeling guilty about the Pacific setting on the back burner but feel it will be nice to have a running engine while I plug away at it.

At the rate you are going, I would not be surprised if you had it running on air by the middle of the summer!
